Fri., Feb. 12 -- 8:30 - 10:30p Loews Vanderbilt Hotel "Drink"
|
 Kick off Valentine's Day weekend with some of your favorite love ballads played on the vibraphone, backed up with just a little kick. And as always, we'll be playing African music jazzed up, incorporating the gyil (xylophone from Ghana, Africa). Audience participation and party dancin' allowed! Jazz history tidbits and trivia fill the spaces between the tunes. With "Rose" on vibes, gyil (African xylophone), and hand percussion; Joel McKeller on piano; Rod Noftsger on trumpet; Maxwell McKeller on bass; and Spencer Strand on drums. Watch out for a good time!

Rose will perform at the Nashville Jazz Workshop in a student
performance. We'll play a selection of tunes including Unit Seven,
Maiden Voyage, and other jazz challenges, under the instruction and
direction of Roger Spencer. Instrumentation includes piano,
trumpet, guitar, vibraphone, drums, and bass. This event is free
and open to the public. Check out the Nashville Jazz Workshop website at

Drink is a cozy listening room in the prestigious Loews Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel.
Enjoy Nashville's casual elegance . . . jeans always OK. No cover; validated parking in the hotel garage. To get to Drink: From I-40, take the Broadway exit, number 209. Head toward Vanderbilt, away from downtown. In 1/2 a mile, Broadway merges with West End; bear right onto West End. Continue straight for about 8 blocks. Loews is located on the corner of West End and 21st. Cross 21st and take a right at the hotel entrance. |

Mexicali Grille is a fabulous Mexican
restaurant located near the Cool Springs mall. The music is staged
at the back of the room, where there's even room to dance. But don't
worry; the music can be heard throughout the restaurant. No cover,
no minimum, great menu (muy sabroso!), ample parking.
Mexicali Grill is located at 330 Mayfield Drive in Franklin, TN. Telephone: 615 771-0717. To get to Mexicali Grill: From I-65 South, exit @ Moore's Lane. Go left off the exit ramp, crossing over the high way. At the light, continue straight onto Caruthers Parkway. In about one mile (7 tenths to be exact), after passing Walgreens on left, you will see Fist Tennessee Bank, also on left. Mexicali Grill is in the the same lot, to the right of the bank. |
